Anonymous Caller Tells Woman Her Husband Taken Hostage

The following information came from the Marblehead Police Department. Where charges are listed, they do not indicate a conviction.

Thursday, Oct. 17

  • 4:26 p.m., police received calls about a drunk man who fell on the sidewalk at State Street and Washington Street. He was transported to the hospital.
  • 6:04 p.m., a person walked into the police station and  reported a wallet and phone was taken from an Ocean Avenue car.
  • 9:15 p.m., a Rowland Street person reportedly took too much medication and was transported to the hospital.
  • 11 p.m., a woman on Gerald Road reported hearing a banging noise outside. She went outside and didn't see anything but still heard the banging.
Friday, Oct. 18
  • 10:12 a.m., a Village Street caller reported a caller claimed her husband had been in an accident: "(A woman) said she got a call at work ... and the caller told her that her husband was in a crash on Route 1 in Saugus. Caller said that the complainant's husband's cousin was also in the car and is a fugitive and has taken her husband hostage and is demanding $2,000. Complainant had confirmed simultaneously that her husband was not being held hostage and told the person on the phone that she knew it was a prank. Complainant was upset that the caller knew her last name and used facts such as Route 1 and the city of Saugus. Complainant just wanted the prank call logged.
  • 1:02 p.m., A locksmith reported getting calls from an elderly man who wanted a lock taken off the steering wheel of his car, a lock his son had placed on the wheel.
  • 5:35 p.m., a hit and run was reported on Pleasant Street.
  • 9:51 p.m., a Broughton Avenue caller reported that someone was flashing a light in her window. Police moved along four young people who denied shining lights.
