Obituary: Thomas Barrows, Fought in the Battle of the Bulge

Thomas Shepard Barrows, age 92, passed away on Saturday, January 25,

Thomas Shepard Barrows, age 92, passed away on Saturday, January 25, surrounded by his family including his four children and his beloved wife at Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, Massachusetts. He is survived by his wife Katherine MacDill Barrows and his children: Leslie Barrows Green, Thomas Shepard Barrows Junior, Katrina Barrows McCall and Robert Hamlen Barrows. Tom also is survived by nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and one great, great grandson.

Thomas Barrows was a graduate of Philips Academy, Andover and of Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He served with the Combat Engineers, 106 Infantry Division, in WWII where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge. After returning home, he began working for the Shepard and Morse Lumber Company and went on to become president.

As a long time resident of Weston and Marblehead, Massachusetts, Tom formed deep attachments to these communities. He was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Weston where for many years he served as treasurer. An avid sailor and a member of the Eastern Yacht Club, Tom was fleet captain for two successive years. He was a keen racer, not only on the "Irondiquoit II" with his grandfather, but also as skipper of his own yacht "Windrush."

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 135 Lafayette Street, Marblehead on Monday, February 3 at 11AM. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
