Obituary: Norma A. (Champlin) Monahan, 85, Formerly of Marblehead

Norma A. (Champlin) Monahan, 85 of Boscawen, NH and formerly of Marblehead, died Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at theMerrimack County Nursing Home in Boscawen, following a long illness. She was the wife of the late Thomas J. Monahan, Jr.

Born and raised in Marblehead, she was the daughter of the late Sylvester and Elizabeth (Smethurst) Champlin. A graduate of Marblehead High School, Norma was a gifted seamstress and from the early 1970’s through the early 80’s owned Norma’s Porch which specialized in handmade clothing. With the closing of her business she worked for the Town of Marblehead in the Collector’s Office from 1983 to ’93. Following her retirement she moved to Georgetown to be with family and later moved to New Hampshire. She was a former member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish of Marblehead.

Norma lived a full life and was an inspiration to many. Her bright spirit will be missed by all who were blessed to know her.

She is survived by two sons, Frank T. Monahan and his wife Debbie & Paul T. Monahan all of Marblehead, two daughters, Debra J. Freedman and her husband William of Errol, NH, & Carol A. Johnson and her husband Ray of Hillsboro, NH a son-in-law, Walter Herrick of Concord, NH, a sister Carol Calder and her husband Wes of Durham, NH. She also leaves 11 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, David R. Monahan, two daughters, Rebecca Monahan, Sharon M. Herrick, two brothers, Sylvester and Ronald Champlin.

Relatives and friends are invited to her graveside service at Waterside Cemetery, West Shore Drive, Marblehead, MA on Monday, May 19, 2014 at 12:30 P.M. There will be no visiting hours.
