Obituary: Emil L. Bernier, Navy Veteran

A private family service will be held at Waterside Cemetery.

Emil L. Bernier was reunited with his beautiful wife Shirleyanne on January 15th, 2014 after passing away at Salem Hospital. Born in Worcester, Ma, he was raised by his parents Emil J. and Anna D. Bernier in Webster, Ma.

An honorably discharged veteran, Emil served in the Navy, where he was awarded several medals for his service and bravery. After his tour, Emil attended Dartmouth and then MIT from which he both graduated and excelled in chemistry. And then, he met the love of his life Shirleyanne. They were married in 1953, traveled around the country for years for work while beginning their family. Emil last worked at Continental (now Crown Beverage Packaging) as a chemist, and finally they found roots and lived out their love and lives in Marblehead.

Emil was a member of the Tri-Kap society at Dartmouth, member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity at MIT, life member of the Chaplain Lyman Rollins Post #2005 V.F.W., a member of the Gerry 5 V.F.A., a past member of the NY Athletic Club, past member of the University Club of Boston, and a past member of the American Chemical Society. He was also a life long, diehard fan of the Patriots.

The man, the husband, the father, Emil, was a person of steadfast strength and conviction. He was a beacon of hope and surety in the maelstrom of life, guiding his family with love and instilled the belief anything was possible, and that life should be the best you can possibly make it. He would tell anyone that once in a while, you had to break free of the ordinary, and share a moment of laughter and fun with those you love.

Emil is predeceased by his wife Shirleyanne, and is survived by his daughter Alison of Marblehead, son Ian and Kathy of Salem, Ma, son Jeremy and son-in-law Robert of Methuen, Ma, and grandchildren Shane and Blake.

A private family service will be held at Waterside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the World Wildlife Federation Fund or the MSPCA. Arrangements by the Eustis and Cornell Funeral Home, Marblehead.
