Obituary: Doug Chernovetz

The following is the obituary for former Marblehead High School football coach Doug Chernovetz, 42, who passed away over the weekend in Littleton, N.H.

, 42, of Lowell, , Aug. 7, 2011 in Littleton, N.H.

Douglas was born in New Haven, Conn., and was raised and educated in Bethany, Conn. He was a graduate of Washington and Jefferson College, Washington, Pa., and received his Master's in Education from Sacred Heart University, Bridgeport, Conn. He received his 6th year in administration from Northeast Consortium. He had been a teacher for over 20 years, most currently at Wilmington Middle School, Wilmington, Mass., and also at Canterbury School, New Milford, Conn.

Doug also coached football and lacrosse for over 20 years. He was awarded The New England Patriots Coach of the Week in 2008. He enjoyed nature, the outdoors, and loved backpacking. He loved golfing and fishing, and especially loved being with his family and was an avid follower of his children's basketball careers. Doug was a loving husband, a devoted family man, and a loyal friend.

His family members include his wife, Susan P. (Rodgers) Chernovetz of Lowell; and his son, Casey J. Cosgrove, and daughter, Maggie C. Cosgrove, both of Lowell. He leaves his parents, John R. and Audrey (Smullen) Chernovetz of Bethany, Conn.; and his brothers, Timothy B. Chernovetz of Jackson, Ohio, and Brad W. Chernovetz of Wallingford, Conn. He has a sister, Kristen C. Blake of Wallingford, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves his beloved Black Labs, Moose and Dozer and his former Black Labs, Tank and Tug.

ARRANGEMENTS: Calling hours will be on Thursday, Aug. 11, 2011 from 4 to 8 p.m. at The Charles F. Dewhirst Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen. A funeral Mass will be on Friday, Aug. 12, at 11 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, Lawrence.
