Obituary: Bob Robinson, 89, of Marblehead

THe obituary for Bob Robinson, 89, of Marblehead.

Bob Robinson, 89, resident of Marblehead for 15 years, and formerly of Atlanta, Baltimore and Pittsburgh, died on May 2, 2014. After graduating as high school valedictorian and with high honors from Georgia Tech as an aeronautical engineer, he received a commission as Ensign in the U.S. Navy. He served on the USS Bering Strait, a seaplane tender engaged in sea/air rescue missions throughout the Pacific.

After the war, Bob was active in the design and manufacture of chemical process machinery. He retired as head of the Renneburg Division of Heyl & Patterson in Pittsburgh and then worked as an industry consultant into his mid-seventies. His work took him around the globe, including significant time in India, South Korea, Sweden, France and Columbia. 

Bob had many passions including flying, woodworking, jewelry making, math and science, opera and his grandchildren. He was active in churches wherever he lived. He served as an Elder at First Presbyterian in Atlanta and Brown Memorial in Baltimore, and on the vestry at St. Michael's in Marblehead. As a son, husband, father and grandfather, his contributions were countless and his love of family was central to his life. He was well known for his humble nature, gracious manner, warm smile and southern charm. 

Bob was predeceased by his wife of 47 years, Jane J. Robinson. He is survived by their children Robert and Anne, and grandchildren Annabelle, Elizabeth, Robby and Caroline. 

His funeral will be held at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 26 Pleasant Street, Marblehead on Tuesday, May 6 at 10:00 am. Interment with honors to follow in Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob's memory to the charity of your choice. Arrangements by the Eustis and Cornell Funeral Home, Marblehead.
