NSTI Now Accepting Derek Sheckman Award Applications

Teen Leaders Wanted: NSTI Now Accepting Derek Sheckman Leadership Award Applications

North Shore Teen Initiative is now accepting applications for the Derek M. Sheckman Leadership Award. This award is given to a Jewish teen in his/her Junior year of high school who lives in one of the 23 cities and towns encompassing NSTI’s North Shore area.

Established in 1996 to acknowledge that teens are important and vital to the life of the North Shore’s Jewish community, the first award honored several teens who had demonstrated leadership in both the Jewish and general community.  Derek Sheckman was one of the first honorees. In 1998, after Derek’s untimely death at the age of 18, the Jewish Federation of the North Shore decided to honor his memory by changing the name of the award to the Derek M. Sheckman Teen Leadership Award.
