A Tucked Away Gem by Meredith Piela

Tucked away in Salem, The Old Spot is a hidden gem of a restaurant. This cozy pub serves delicious food, and it is a perfect place to eat during the fall and winter. Since the restaurant mostly serves comfort food, I went there with my family to celebrate running 10 miles. I was able to indulge in the excellent food that The Old Spot served. The Old Spot has a great atmosphere. Although it’s dimly lit, it’s decorated with interesting photos and other artwork, and it is very comfortable. The restaurant can be very busy, but the service is great (as well as the food!). If you go to The Old Spot no need to worry about dressing fancy I wore a sweater, corduroys, and boots when I went. Although the atmosphere etc. is important, the food is definitely the most important. After enjoying some fresh, flavorsome focaccia to start, when you see your food being brought over, that’s when your mouth begins to water. When I went, I got the deluxe cheeseburger, and I was not disappointed. I recommend ordering that, or the green salad (with steak tips, because they make it even more delicious). Since the portions are so large, it’s a little difficult to save room for dessert. Make sure you do try one of their rich and decadent desserts, though, because they don’t disappoint. I ordered the pint of trifle, which was fantastic. I also recommend the “spotted dick” bread pudding, which was also delicious. It’s hard to not leave the restaurant stuffed with wonderful comfort food! If you’re ever looking to try a new restaurant, The Old Spot is a great place to go, especially on cold nights. With all the other restaurants nearby, especially in Salem, it’s hard to notice The Old Spot, but if you give it a try, it just might become one of your favorite restaurants!
