Travolta Movie Makes Chilly Devereux a Tropical Set

Actors and actresses shot scenes for the movie The Forger in Marblehead on Monday.

In the world of make believe a North Shore beach — where temperatures slid toward freezing at sunset — doubles as a tropical paradise with a palm frond umbrella and a hammock-strung cabana.

That was Devereux Beach Monday where little waves lapped the shore and actors shot scenes for the John Travolta movie The Forger.

A scene shot from several angles had an older man in shirt sleeves tilting a green bottle to his mouth by the water's edge.

The man appeared to be the Oscar winning actor Christopher Plummer, who plays John Travolta's father in the movie. The cast also includes Jennifer Ehle, Anson Mount, Abigail Spencer and Marcus Thomas.

Nearby, a brown-haired actress draped in a down jacket and an actor in a coat waited their turn to shed their warm coverings and stroll the beach in bathing suits.

At the top of the beach two actors hung out in the cabana. One of them lolled in the hammock as the other sat nearby.

Watching from a distance behind yellow caution tape at the beach wall were Tammy Sprague and Lisa Hoguet — set watchers from Marblehead.

Tammy, who had an extra role in the movie Grown Ups 2 and in The Perfect Storm, watched intently as the action stopped and started.

The older gentleman appeared to be playing a character who was tipsy from drink. He was calling out to friends at the cabana to join him, she said.

Lisa said it was fun seeing Hollywood come to town and for people to learn about Marblehead.

Meanwhile, movie set hands hustled to the coat-less actors covering them in blankets when the shooting stopped.

The story line according to the Huffington Post tells of a thief who cuts a deal to get out of prison and be with his sick son.

The movie is due out next year, according to the Huffington Post.

Look for the scene on a Mexican beach for the Marblehead connection.
