Help the State's Best Jump Shooters Fight Cancer

Money raised by the athletic challenge is going to Mass. General Hospital and Children's Hospital.

It all started when Mike Slonina's mom sat him down and told him the bad news — she had a spot on her brain. It might be cancer.

But as Slonina explains in a video about the charity he started to fund brain cancer research, he isn't the kind of guy to take things lying down. In his mom's case, thankfully, the spot turned out to be benign.

But Slonina continues to raise money via his "A Shot For Life Challenge."

He will put on the A Shot for Life Challenge featuring the top dozen basketball players from the Bay State at the University Sports Complex in Hanover.

He has a goal of $30,000, with the money going to Mass. General Hospital and Children's Hospital. The players taking part in the challenge will also raise money.

"As much as winning this event is prestigious from an athletic standpoint, raising money for cancer research through basketball is by far the most important aspect and all of the shooters understand that," Slonina wrote on his GoFundMe.com page.

Here's how you can donate to Slonina's cause.
