Abbot Hall Tower Getting Touch-Up

The Shattuck Fund will provide for the replacement of seven deteriorating windows.

The lower portion of the bell tower will be getting some much-needed repairs, thanks to the Harold B. and Elizabeth L. Shattuck Memorial Fund.

Historical Commission Chairman Chris Johnston was placed to was announce Tuesday that the Trustees of the Shattuck Memorial Fund have awarded the commission a $25,000 grant to replace deteriorated windows in the tower of .

The tower presently has a number of leaks and significant deterioration of the brick, mortar and woodwork, according to release.

The window replacement is the initial step in further restoration of the building's trademark tower. The seven windows that will be replaced are "deteriorating and leaking," the release read.

The seven windows will be replaced using windows of the same type as other tower windows, in order to maintain consistency of design and appearance.

The commission recently unveiled the building's revamped . It is open to the public Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
