From Trash to Treasure: Swap Shed

For more than a decade, and at least the last 15 years, Marblehead residents have been dropping off and picking up everything from plates and mugs to toys and games at the Swap Shed.

The shed is located at 5 Woodfin Terrace, at the town transfer station, and will be open this Saturday from 9 to 11:30 a.m.

Starting in May, once the weather warms, the shed will be open each Saturday from 9 to 11:30 a.m.

But until then, it is open the first Saturday of each month, during those hours.

A handfull of volunteers, four or five people, have been operating the shed, according to a transfer station spokeswoman.

The shed provides a place to directly recycle. It's an alternative to buying something and tossing something.

Those somethings can include flower pots and all kinds of usefull stuff.

Keep in mind that the shed is a busy place with people coming and going and lingering to socialize.

You have to be a Marblehead resident to use it, and you have to come during open hours — to drop items off and pick them up.

Any resident with a Facilities Sticker may take items for free from the Swap Shed. No vehicle will be allowed access without a valid Marblehead Resident Facility Sticker. 

The Swap Shed does not exchange: 

• Clothing
• Hazardous materials
• TV's
• Computer monitors
• Large furniture
• Large appliances
