Obituary of Richard F. Delande

Richard F. Delande, of Marblehead,  beloved husband of years of Alice F. (Fitzpatrick) Delande, died peacefully Thursday, July 11, 2013 after a brief illness, surrounded by his family.

 

Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Arthur and Alice (Clements) Delande, graduating from Salem High School in 1948, where he was an outstanding athlete.  He served honorably in the U.S. Navy before graduating from Boston University.  A successful career in sales followed.

A longtime resident of Marblehead, Richard and his wife were longtime members of the Corinthian Yacht Club and he was active in activities at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church.  He was well known for his kindness and generosity.

He is survived by his children, Mark J. Delande and his wife Nancy of Woburn, James P. Delande and his wife Alexandra of Marblehead, Tracy McGuiness and her husband Timothy of Groton and Lesley J. Delande of Marblehead and his adored 7 grandchildren.  He was the brother of the late Barbara Doyle,  and  Edward  and Arthur Delande.

 

His funeral will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2013 at 9:15 AM  from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St, corner of  North St, Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 85 Atlantic Ave,  Marblehead.  Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.  Visitation will be on Wednesday, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to North Shore Medical Center (Salem Hospital) Attn.
