Symphony by the Sea Concert

Time to

Exhale…

What better way to celebrate the end of our winter’s discontent than to take a few deep breaths with Mozart…and Salieri…on Thursday, May 1 in 7:30 pm at Marblehead’s Abbot Hall and on Sunday, May 4 at 3:00 pm at Newburyport’s Firehouse Center for the Arts.

Symphony by the Sea’s finale for the 2013-2014 Season explores the delightful and questionably rivalrous relationship between composers Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri.  Whether you subscribe to theories about poisonous
plots or not, the music speaks for itself with Salieri’s Sinfonia in D major, “La Veneziana” and Mozart’s Symphony No. 29 in A Major.  Be prepared to sit back and enjoy the fruits of their genius.

The program also features Joaquin Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez, the popular and beloved guitar concerto with Jerome Mouffe, guest soloist.  Mouffe was the first guitarist to receive a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the New England Conservatory of Boston.  Audience members will immediately recognize this pleasing music and have another reason to breathe deeply with satisfaction.

Marblehead audiences are invited to a pre-concert reception at Abbot Hall starting at 6:30 pm. Maestro Donald Palma will offer comments from the podium at the start of each performance.  All ticket and parking information for both venues is available at www.symphonybythesea.org.
