Symphony by the Sea Celebrates 33rd

Symphony by the Sea turns 33...and invites 33-year olds (and under) to celebrate!

Announcing its 33rd season, Symphony by the Sea brings live opera to the concert stage on the North Shore with “Rejoice: an Opera Gala.”  Bowing to popular demand, Maestro Donald Palma returns to the podium with well loved opera repertoire, including arias and choruses by Verdi, Puccini, Rossini and Mozart.

Joining the symphony are soloists Sara Heaton, soprano, and Joshua Dennis, tenor, as well as the Endicott Singers under the direction of Rebecca Kenneally.

Symphony by the Sea welcomes Ms. Heaton for a return engagement after her brava performance in last season’s Opera Gala. She has performed with the Santa Fe Opera’s Spring Opera Tour among others and is acclaimed for her “sweet, pure soprano” by the Chicago Tribune. Sara is joined by tenor Joshua Dennis who has just completed his apprenticeship with the Santa Fe Opera Company.

Chair of the Performing Arts Department and Director of Choral Activities and Musical Theater at Endicott College, Rebecca Kenneally grew up in Marblehead and has been a sought-after singer and conductor for many years. She has won recognition for youth choirs with the 2011 American Prize. The Endicott Singers, having swelled to its current full ensemble complement under Kenneally’s direction, make singing look like fun, whether it’s from the classical concert repertoire or jazz and popular music.

Performances are on Thursday evening, October 24 in Marblehead at Abbot Hall at 7:30 pm, preceded by a 6:30 reception at the concert venue, and in Byfield at the Governor’s Academy on Sunday afternoon, October 27 at 3:00 pm.

Marblehead area audiences are reminded that several local restaurants are again participating in ‘Supper and Symphony’ where dinners can buy reduced price concert tickets at the door with a restaurant receipt dated the day of the concert.  Please see website for details and restaurant locations.

Also, to celebrate the launching of the symphony’s 33rd season, and to encourage those who are 33 years young to find and love opera, tickets will be discounted for anyone aged 33 and under. We will honor a double discount worth $20 for those who are 33 years (and under) and who present a restaurant receipt. Photo identification required.
