Richard Pohl's Paintings on Exhibit in Stetson Gallery in November

STETSON GALLERY FEATURES PAINTINGS BY

The Stetson Art Gallery in the Unitarian Universalist Church of Marblehead will hold an opening reception Sunday, November 3, from noon-2 p.m. for a month-long exhibit of paintings by Marblehead resident Richard Pohl.
Pohl’s exhibit, “Visions of Italy +”, will feature oil paintings that illustrate the impressions of old and new that he has observed in several visits to Italy.
“This collection of my paintings,” Pohl says, “depicts scenes from my travels to Italy over the past five years, to Siena, Tuscany, Venice and the Veneto, and Sicily. They are all special places to me, and the quality of the light there is unique. In addition to being singularly beautiful, the country presents a constant juxtaposition of old and new, ancient and modern mixed in countless ways, a particular interest of mine.
“Much of life is about the transition between what was, what is, and what will be. As a practicing psychiatrist, I strive to reconcile the conflicts between past requirements and present needs, much like the renovation of an old structure makes renewed use and vitality possible. My paintings often explore these transitions and passages, what is transient and what is lasting, what is trivial and what is important.”
Pohl has studied painting at the Acorn Gallery in Marblehead. He is a member of both the Swampscott Art Association and the Marblehead Arts Association. His work has been juried into the Marblehead Festival of Arts Painting exhibit every year since 2003. His work has won many awards at the MFoA, including several Outstanding Work awards, as well as at the Acorn Gallery and in member shows at the Swampscott and Marblehead Arts Associations.
Stetson Gallery is open weekdays 9 a.m.-2p.m. (1 p.m. Mondays) and during Church events at other times. The 2013-14 Gallery season has been planned, and will feature the following artists: January, Nicholas Kent; February, Barbara Naeser; March, Elizabeth Neville; April, William Cloutman; May, Daly Inspirations, watercolors by students of Elaine Caliri Daly; June, the photographs of Rev.
