Auditions will be held at 12 School St., Marblehead, MA



Please Prepare: 


Adults: a verse and a chorus from a selection in the style of the show. All those auditioning must sing with piano accompaniment. Please supply appropriate sheet music in the key you will be singing. An accompanist will be provided.

Boys: Gavroche: Please prepare “Little People,” available at Mltlive.org

Cast Breakdown (all ages are suggested portrayal ages):




Jean Valjean: 30’s-40’s sings to B (high lyric baritone or tenor with strong low notes), a poor peasant who rises to affluence, has great natural nobility and dignity, a powerful figure with a character of operatic size and passion, the voice needs to have a pop/rock sound or a classical sound of extraordinary textual clarity.



Javert: 30’s-40’sbaritone, sings to G, a policeman who relentlessly hunts Valjean, the ultimate "law and order" figure, obsessed, to the point of irrationality, with a rigid and merciless moral code, both belt voice and classical with a darker quality than Jean Valjean.



Thenardier: 30’s-40’sstrong comic character role, a crooked innkeeper, later a petty, amoral thief, greedy, irreverent, selfish, boorish, vulgar, baritone, sings to F sharp.



Marius: 20’s – 30’shigh baritone (sings to A) with a strong lower register (to A), a member of the revolutionary student movement, attractive and romantic.



Fantine: 20’s – 30’sbelt up to C, sings to E flat, a poor factory girl, struggling to support her fatherless daughter, she should appear to be strong and a survivor, puts up a valiant fight against the horrors of her life



Cosette: 20’s Fantine’s daughter, delicate, elegant, vulnerable, and beautiful, falls in love with and later marries Marius, soprano (to high C)



Eponine: 20’s a big, beautiful belt voice (to C in belt; sings to E flat), the daughter of the Thenardiers, but in no way behaves like them, fired by an unrequited love for Marius, small, waif-like, hasn't learned to disguise her emotions, wears her heart on her sleeve.



Madame Thenardier: 30’s-40’stough, sharp, coarse, boorish, vulgar, strong character comedienne role, belter



Enjolras: 20’s high baritone (to G sharp/A), very strong singer, a charismatic political figure, the leader of the revolutionary movement.



Gavroche: Male, 7-11, a spunky street urchin, lots of personality, sings very well. 



Young Cosette and Young Eponine: Female, 7-11, All Ethnicities



50" tall or less, sweet, innocent waifs with pretty soprano voices
