While Sheila Billings’s formal training in art came at Salem State College, she was raised in a family of artists, with “works-in-progress” strewn throughout her home as an inspiration to creativity. Her work, which spans many mediums, reflects her upbeat attitude, with its straightforward style and true colors.

Sheila Billings is a member of the Society of Book Writers and Illustrators, and has written, illustrated, and collaborated on several books. She is also an educator who has taught in Salem and Beverly. She now works from her home studio in Salem.

“New England Scenes” is a collection of work inspired by the beauty of New England. Paintings were created both on location and from photographs, and include ocean scenes, historic buildings, gardens, and quaint neighborhoods. While the acrylic and watercolor paintings on exhibit are realistic, others are more whimsical and employ a variety of media.
