Salem Sound Coastwatch's Adopt a Beach Volunteer Training

Do you like to walk on the beach? If so, why not volunteer for Salem Sound Coastwatch's Adopt a Beach program? Adopt a Beach volunteers serve as year-round "beachkeepers," cleaning up and monitoring their adopted beaches. Beachkeepers prevent trash--including plastics which are not biodegradable--from becoming marine debris and polluting the ocean; observe conditions on the beach; and look for sources of contamination, including pet wastes.

Beachkeepers are asked to attend a brief training session about beach ecology, sources of water pollution, how to identify storm damage, invasive species and more.

The next training is on Thursday, November 7, 6:30 - 8 pm at the Marblehead Community Charter School. 17 Lime Street in Marblehead.

The training is open to those interested in volunteering and anyone interested in learning more about the science behind beaches. Light refreshments will be served. RSVP is requested. Contact Salem Sound Coastwatch at info@salemsound.org or call 978-741-7900. More information about the Adopt a Beach program is available at http://www.salemsound.org/
