YOUR TURN: NFL Replacement Refs

Here's your chance to sound off on the quality of the officiating in the NFL and what you think should be done about it.

If you're a local football fan, the New England Patriots' controversial Sunday Night loss to the Baltimore Ravens probably left you with a bad taste in your mouth and a strong opinion about the status of officiating in the NFL.

The much-discussed replacement referee issue was forced front-row center again Monday night when a nationally-televised game between the Seattle Seahawks and the Green Bay Packers appeared to be determined by an incorrect call made by a team of back-up officials.

So, we have to ask - what do you think about the quality of officiating in the NFL? Do you think the league owes it to the players, owners and fans to put the best product on the field, no matter what it costs?

Should League Commissioner Roger Goodell bend to the demands of the locked out referee union to get them back on the field as soon as possible? Do you sympathize with the replacement referees who are working under a great deal of pressure with little experience?

The game was garbage. Any play the determines the outcome of a game SHOULD BE reviewed, plain and simple. What happened to the Patriots was TRASH.

At the end of the day, its just a damn game. That being said...it is one of the countries most marketable and profitable enterprises. For that reason - yes, get the real refs back. The product is suffering.

I think it completes the three ring circus that the NFL had become. Support the refs and stop watching this garbage.

It doesn't matter they are doing the best they can, because the best they can is not good enough. Nobody held a gun to their heads and made them referee the games. If you can't cut it, don't do it. It is not their fault that the NFL is in this situation right now but that is no excuse for the horrific calls that have been made at the games so far this year. The NFL needs to give in to the refs and get control of the games before this gets worse (if it can). $3 million is nothing compared to the profit they make off of the games.

These were the best referees the NFL had available (after deciding to not use the best college referees for whatever reason). If someone offers you a big raise from Pop Warner, most people will take it - maybe they'll be good at it. Further, if the replacement refs resign due to the fact they are over their heads, the replacements for the replacement will be even worse. Therefore, blaming the replacement referees for not having the experience to perform as well as the experienced NFL referees isn't a solution and is counter productive. Save you ire for the NFL, or the referees that are out on strike, or maybe even to some extent the player/coaches who have agreed to play under these conditions,.

ever since goodell took control of the nfl there hve been nothing but problems. get rid of him and the rest will take care of itself. pay the refferees the three million the nfl is making money hand over fist and i wouldnt be surprised if goodell is fixing these games with the scabs for his own profit. get rid of goodell.

Hey someone want to tell these so called replacement refs that Footlocker wants their employees back. I look forward to football season and now these refs and the NFL have made a mockery of the season. The players should have a walk out until the real refs return.

Here's my plan, find a way to bring the refs into the players union. Players's can't play without refs and refs can't work without players. Many unoin contacts have clauses for different job classifacations. This is a clear case of the NFL tripping over the $20 to pick up the $1.
