Stay up to date with the latest on the Monday-Tuesday winter storm.

Tuesday, Jan. 22

7:12 a.m. — The Tale of the Norlun Trough: So, best I can tell, an expected band of heavy, highly local precipation formed out to sea rather than over our homes. The driving phenomenon is something called a "Norlun Trough." Apparently it's wicked hard to predict. For weather geeks, here's an AccuWeather video from last night explaining the theory of what was expected to happen.

6:58 a.m. — What snow?: As Marblehead begins to dig out from the devastating winter storm...wait, this was more like a dusting. Here at Marblehead Patch we're scratching our heads like the rest of you about how the forecasts could have been so wrong. If you hear, let us know!

Monday, Jan. 21

Nice job, National Weather Service. You predicted 5-8 inches, with a possible foot of snow. You only missed it by a factor of about 30x. Outside I'm measuring the snow and it's a least a quarter of an inch, maybe three-eights, with drifts up to half an inch -- is this a snow day for the kids?
