Updated: Man Extricated From Overturned Car On Atlantic Avenue

Firefighters had to cut into an overturned car on Atlantic Avenue Wednesday night to get the driver out of the vehicle.

The car was on its side near the intersection with Drumlin Road about 9 pm.

The driver was conscious and alert and transported to a Boston hospital, according to scanner reports.

Police had the section of road closed and were interviewing witnesses. About a dozen people were at the scene, located near Preston Beach and the Swampscott town line.

A man at the scene, Bradley Sontz, said the driver is a Marblehead resident and he looked like he was OK.

Bradley and his son had been at the Marblehead fire house to see the new ladder truck about an hour before the accident. When they heard the sirens they checked out what had happened.

He said he knows the driver and the driver's family as they live in his neighborhood, which is about a half-mile from the accident scene.
