What's The Deal With This Beached Boat in Boston?

Here's an update regarding a boat that has been beached in South Boston for the last few weeks.

On Friday, a South Boston woman alerted us on Facebook to a local sailboat that she said has been beached at Kelly's Landing in Boston for about a week.

The photo snapped of the Missing Star - Marblehead, seen above, was taken by South Boston resident Eileen Murphy, who wanted us to find out if the boat's owner was aware of where it ended up.

Soon after our initial post, we learned from several of our followers on Twitter that the Missing Star has been beached in South Boston since Hurricane Sandy rocked the region.

So, as part of this week's You Ask...Patch Answers column, we set out to track down some answers from the Boston Police Department regarding the Missing Star.

According to a representative of the Boston Police Department's Harbor Patrol Division, investigators are currently trying to track down the boat's owner - but don't have much to go on.

"I have no information on the boat but we know it is over there and it is unregistered and undocumented, so it's impossible for us to get any information as to the ownership," a Harbor Patrol representative said Wednesday night. "Right now it is going to just stay there until we find the owner."

The BPD representative also pointed out that because the Missing Star doesn't have a motor, "it technically doesn't have to be registered."

This isn’t the first time police have found the Missing Star beached at Kelly's Landing and they believe it originated at the South Boston Yacht Club and is owned by a South Boston woman.

Calls made to the South Boston Yacht Club were unreturned Wednesday.

Marblehead Patch will be sure to keep you updated with any new information.
