The Lynx Returning to Marblehead

The Tall Ship Lynx is scheduled to sail back into Marblehead Harbor this summer.

The , a historic tall ship that captured the imaginations of hundreds of town residents when she sailed into Marblehead Harbor for the first time last summer, is set to return in August.

At a 's meeting at Wednesday night, executive director Ann Marie Casey said she was pleased to report that The Lynx, recreated in the image of a ship that was among the first to defend America in the War of 1812, will arrive in Marblehead the morning of Aug. 8 and depart Aug. 13.

Similar to last year's visit, The Lynx is expected to be docked near the office and will offer an array of services, including dockside tours during the day and sunset sails around the harbor.

The Lynx is a square-top schooner, designed and built to interpret a privateer or naval schooner from the War of 1812.

The tall ship is mirrored after the original, which was built at Fell's Point, Md., and commissioned during the opening days of the war, "making her among the first ships to defend American freedom," according to the ship's website.
