Selectmen Suspend Fen Yang House Liquor License

The Feng Yang House was issued three-day liquor license suspension Wednesday night.

The Marblehead Board of Selectmen unanimously approved a motion Wednesday night to suspend the Fen Yang House's liquor license for three days.

The suspension stems from an incident on Jan. 24 during which four minors were reportedly sold alcoholic beverages at the Atlantic Avenue restaurant.

Prior to the vote, Assistant Town Counsel Lisa Mead provided board members with the details included in a police report filed by the Marblehead Police Department.

According to the report, on Jan. 24, two officers responding to a report of minors drinking at the restaurant found a group of teens sitting around two tables and determined that four of them had been drinking alcoholic beverages.

Prior to handing down the suspension, board members noted that this is the first time a violation has occurred at the restaurant in the 10 years it has been in business in Marblehead.

"I'm there often and it is a class place and I've never seen anything like minors being served there before. Nevertheless there are four counts on this violation... and serving to kids is a very, very serious situation," Harry C. Christensen Jr. said.

Appearing on behalf of the Fen Yang House was the owner's daughter, Ling Chen, of Quincy, who reiterated that this is the first time the restaurant has been issued a violation and assured board member that employees would be "very careful when it comes to serving alcohol" moving forward.

The suspension will be served on March 10, 11 and 12. The Fen Yang House will remain open during those days but patrons will not be served alcohol.

What do you think about the punishment?
