Orange Leaf Eyes Mid-June Opening

Local residents can expect Marblehead's new Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt to open in mid-June.

Michael Hennessy was hard at work Tuesday evening, finalizing the interior of Marblehead's new Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt, which he hopes to open on Atlantic Avenue in the next few weeks.

"We're pushing along nicely here now and we don't have an exact date but we will hopefully be open by mid-June when all the equipment comes in," Hennessy said.

Although all Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt locations have the same trademark orange tile interior, Hennessy said a group of seven juniors are busy painting a mural aimed at separating Marblehead's store from all the rest.

"They're doing a fantastic job," Hennessy said. "It's just the harbor with the lighthouse and a sailboat at a mooring. They're just a great group of kids."

So who will be working at the 1,200-square-foot space next to when it opens? Hennessy said local residents can expect to see some familiar faces when they walk in for their first taste.

"All the way down from assistant manager we've hired either Marblehead High School students or kids who have recently graduated," Hennessy said. "It's all local kids."

The Atlantic Avenue location will be the frozen yogurt chain's second to open in Massachusetts and the 200th nationwide.

The frozen yogurt store will have some competition nearby - it is opening less than 100 yards from where is expected to reopen later this summer.

There is already an Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt open in and additional locations are expected to open soon in Belmont, Lexington, Melrose, Newburyport, Newton, Reading, Salem, Seekonk and Westford, according to the company's website.
