North Shore Food Buzz: New Bakery Hits Town, Fish Market Slated For Salem

A round up of North Shore restaurant and food news.

Here's our round up of the area's latest food news:

Marblehead

A new bakery is slated to open in June on Washington Street. One of Orchard Street Bakery's founders is pastry chef Rob Fitzhenry, whose resume includes stints in New York and Paris.

Danvers

Recently-opened Castiello's Bakery aims to "bring the North End to the North Shore." In other news in town, plans for a new pub style restaurant on Route 1 South have stalled and there's apparently a national restaurant chain now interested in the site.

Salem

Big news — Salem is getting a fish market! When I moved to Salem in December, I was surprised that the nearest one was the excellent Cherry Street Fish Market in Danvers. The new spot, a combination market/restaurant, will be an outpost of Turner's in Melrose. The Turners will be in the old 43 Church space downtown.

This is also something of a Danvers story, since Turner's had been eyeing a parcel off 128 before deciding to go for the Salem location.

Lynnfield

For people with nut allergies, finding ice cream made in nut-free environments can be tough. A nut-free bakery in Lynnfield, Jeanne's Bakeshop, is catering to that need now with their recent addition of nut-free sundaes and ice cream.

Also in Lynnfield, the new Whole Foods made public its plans to grow food on the roof of their MarketStreet location.

North Andover

The last handful of Brigham's Restaurants, including the one in North Andover, will be changing their names. The change, which had already happened at most former Brigham's Ice Cream restaurants, is tied to a corporate decision to stop selling three-gallon tubs of ice cream.

Beverly

Have you been to the revamped Wild Horse yet? The comfort food/beer mecca did a complete renovation of the interior. Here are the details.
