Local Start-Up Launches Marijuana App

Medicinal Genomics, a local life sciences start-up, recently launched a marijuana iPad app.

Medicinal Genomics, a locally-based life-sciences startup that claims to have sequenced the "cannabis genome," recently unveiled a new iPad app aimed at explaining their research.

“Medicinal Genomics is excited to roll out Jane-Ome to help make sense of the extensive datasets created by the Cannabis genome project,” Medicinal Genomics founder Kevin McKernan said in a story published in the Boston Business Journal. “The company’s hope is that Jane-Ome will help make that data more relevant to the public and serve as a conduit for future Cannabis genomes.”

McKernan told the Boston Business Journal that "the app will provide continuously updated information on the cannabis genome and also provides users with access to several scientific news feeds that explore the science of medical marijuana."

According to the story, Medicinal Genomics said " ongoing studies on the medicinal benefits of marijuana point to its use in an expanding number of diseases and medical conditions, including HIV, cancer, multiple sclerosis, glaucoma, inflammatory diseases, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder."

Although the company maintains its corporate headquarters right here in Marblehead, the Business Journal reported that their scientific operations are conducted at the company’s research facility in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
