Kitsen Table Awarded Liquor License

Board of Selectmen unanimously approved a liquor license for family-seating-style restaurant on Bessom Street.

At their meeting Wednesday night, the town's Board of Selectmen unanimously approved a wine and malt beverage license for Kitsen Table, a new home-seating restaurant located at 10 Bessom St.

Appearing before the board Wednesday was part-owner Mia Lunt, of 55 Hillside Road in Tewskbury, who presented members with copies of the restaurant's prospective menu and shared the story of how she and her family arrived in Marblehead.

After explaining the concept behind Kitsen Table, Lunt told board members that she had "fallen in love with Marblehead" after she and her six-member family arrived from a Vietnamese refugee camp through a sponsorship by in 1980.

"I have a lot of roots here and so does my partner. I got married here at and this a dream of ours that we’ve had for a long time now," Lunt said. "We’ve been waiting for this opportunity and we are very excited to be where we are now."

Lunt said the concept behind Kitsen Table, which she is opening with her partner, Mita Snow and her brother, Tanavan Nguyen, is one that is meant to bring community members closer together around a common dinner table in a comfortable atmosphere.

"Our concept is that when you come in, we want it to be very welcoming and homey - as if you are in your own house," Lunt said. "We have a family community seating arrangement and we want to move beyond just offering a take out and a cafe, we'd like to do wine dinners moving forward."

Menu items include a host of healthy options from an assortment of cuisines from across the globe, meant to provide guests with "a taste of foods from around the world," Lunt said.

In addition to wine dinners, Lunt said owners are considering featuring guest chefs once a month and offering a full breakfast menu to local residents.

In response to an inquiry from Judith Jacobi about whether or not she had managed a restaurant in the past, Lunt said she was TIPS certified and that those in charge of the new restaurant have a depth of experience in the food and service industry.

According to Lunt, Snow used to own Tappa’s Corner in Beverly and she currently owns a nail salon in North Beverly. To accommodate the change, Lunt said her mother will take over the nail salon to allow her to work in Marblehead full-time.

"Mita and I, we’ve been talking about this for years and we're really excited," she said.

The restaurant, located next door to Romano's Pizza, will be open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.

According to a post on Marblehead Patch's Facebook wall, the restaurant passed three early inspections Wednesday.
