Karaoke OK'd at Terry's Ice Cream Shop

Terry's Old-Fashioned Ice Cream Shop will now be hosting karaoke on Friday and Saturday nights.

If you happen to find yourself at Terry's Ice Cream Shop on a Friday or Saturday night, you can expect to hear some classics being belted out by local singers.

At their meeting at Abbot Hall Wednesday night, the Board of Selectmen unanimously approved awarding Terry's owner Carlos Rocha an entertainment license so he could host karaoke on Friday and Saturday night.

The ice cream parlor, which reopened on Atlantic Avenue last month, has become a regular hang-out for local teens and Rocha said he hoped a karaoke machine would give them something fun and safe to do on the weekends.

"It will keep them off the streets, and give them something to do," Rocha said. "That's what this is all about."

The motion to award the entertainment license passed on the conditions that karaoke be held on Friday and Saturday from 7 to 11 p.m. and that no music could be heard from the street.
