Opening Soon: Captn's Bakery

Marblehead's newest bakery is expected to open on Washington Street next week.

According to a sign recently posted in the front window, local residents can expect to open for business on June 1.

The bakery is being opened in the Washington Street space formerly occupied by by owners Jocelyn Flowers; her husband, Chad Flowers; and her father, Lynn Weekley.

Earlier this spring, Jocelyn Flowers said the trio was hoping Captn's would be "an old-school bakery" and added that she plans on offering a wide variety of baked goods, including artisan bread, cakes, cookies, cupcakes and brownies.

"We will be selling some soups too," Flowers said, "to go with our baguettes."

What prompted the group to name the bakery Captn's? Jocelyn said the name, like the business, is rooted in family.

"My husband and I are high school sweethearts and ever since we met he referred to my father as the captain," Flowers said. "So it just made sense for us to call it that."

Flowers said this is her family's first shot at running a bakery. She and her husband moved to Massachusetts from Ohio four years ago.
