The Hurricane Restaurant and Bar Closing Up

The Hurricane Restaurant and Bar in Marblehead will reopen this spring under a new name.

The Hurricane Restaurant and Bar in Marblehead will soon close its doors while the interior is renovated by the restaurant's new owner.

Although the new name the Washington Street restaurant will reopen under hasn't yet been nailed down, owner Ben Newman said local regulars can look forward to a significant spruce-up of the interior.

Over the last eight years, Newman, of Boston, has spent many of his weekends sailing in Marblehead and said he plans to relocate his family to the North Shore in the coming months.

"I love the area and I'm really excited about adding another great business to what is already a thriving local business community," Newman said Tuesday afternoon, adding that he hopes to have the new space open in early May.

This will be his first shot at running a restaurant. It is unclear when The Hurricane will officially close its doors, he said.
