Chet’s Video just celebrated their 20th Anniversary in Marblehead! That is nothing short of amazing for a video store at the mercy of changing technology. Look at how many video, photo, and record stores have closed in the last few years. Chet’s has outlasted Blockbuster, Videosmith and all the other small video stores. I don’t think that it’s because Chet is a marketing and business genius, (no offense Chet) but there is a very good reason that Chet’s Video has lasted 20 years; Chet’s Video offers something that is more vital to us than technology and convenience - YOU SIMPLY ENJOY GOING THERE!
We are fortunate to have so many wonderful local businesses in our town. Chet’s Video is local business at its best and is the quintessential mom and pop (and kids) run store. We all know Chet, Carrie and Melissa and all the local teens that they have offered employment to for years. We think of Chet and his family as friends and valuable members of our community.
People go to Chet’s as a social event - to spend time chatting with Chet and with people they know and don’t know. You go there with your family and friends to select a movie together that you’ll watch that night, and grab a free popcorn on the way out. Chet’s Video is a gathering place that people enjoy going to. The video is almost incidental and that may be why Chet’s is immune to changing technology. If you are a regular customer of Chet’s Video, you know what I’m talking about, if you are not, I encourage you to shut off your computer, get out of your house and interact with your neighbors at Chet’s and all of the vital local businesses that make our community a wonderful place to live.
Thank you Chet, Carrie and Melissa - Happy 20th!
