Glover School Construction on Schedule

The school target opening date is Dec. 23

School Building Committee Chairman Dick Nohelty told School Committee members on Thursday that construction at the new K-4 Glover School was on target.

With the exterior brick work done and wall-board going up inside, 67 percent of the project is done.

The completion date is scheduled for Dec. 23.

The school's 320 students will be attending the new school in January 2014 when they return from holiday break.

Sixty-five percent of the budget has been expended, the chairman said.

The total budget for the project is $25.9 million with the construction itself costing about $21 million.

The new school will be able to serve as many as 425 students.

The school is a long time coming.

The project's very beginning dates to 2007, with demo of the old school in August 2012, and construction starting thereafter.

School Building Committee members meet each month.

The committee has 13 voting members.

They meet the second Thursday of each month at the Veterans Middle School at 7 p.m. in the library.
