As part of supporting our community, the Marblehead Festival of Arts awards two scholarships annually to deserving students.

Since 1986, the Festival has given a scholarship, now worth $3,000, to a high school senior who resides in or attends school in Marblehead, and is pursuing higher education in visual arts, performing arts, crafts, music, drama or writing.

For the past three years, the Festival has had an additional art scholarship program, in the amount of $500, made possible by contributions to a special fund in memory of Milton Bloom. A student (or students) in grades 7-11, residing in or attending school in Marblehead, receives assistance in paying tuition for programs in the arts.

Danielle J. DeVellis is the 2013 winner of the Student Art Scholarship.  A recent High School graduate and member of the Honor Society,  Danielle will attend U Mass Dartmouth where she intends to major in Fine Art with a minor in Art Therapy.   She was chosen from among 8 candidates for the scholarship because of her high academic standing, her passion for art and her artistic talent.

Abby Wheeler and Claire Coen are the winners of this years’ Milton Bloom award and will each receive $500. Abby will attend an acting intensive workshop at the Wheelock Family Theatre.  She has been active in Marblehead Little Theatre, Theatre of Light and her school production of Sweeny Todd.  She has also acted in commercials for local companies.  Claire Coen will be going to the New York Film Academy at Harvard University.  Claire has been involved with the Theatre of Light for 8 years, has performed in the North shore Children’s Theatre, is a member of the high school chorus and part of the volunteer stage crew at the Village School.  She plays the violin, the cello, the saxophone, and the bassoon.

The scholarship committee chaired by Peggy Farrell, and including Herb Goldberg, Karen McMahon and Jocelyn Poisson were delighted to have such outstanding students receive these scholarships.
