Marblehead was ranked No. 43 on a recent list of the 50 safest communities in Massachusetts.

The Safewise.com list, released last week, highlighted Marblehead's low crime rate plus the beaches and conservation areas, noting the town "exudes classic New England charm." Safewise is a home security review resource.

Sudbury earned the top spot on the list. Other towns north of Boston on the list include Reading at No. 19, Ipswich at No. 22, Andover at No. 23, Lynnfield at No. 26, Winchester at No. 28, North Reading at No. 34 and Winthrop at No. 46.

"Less than 20 miles north of Boston, it’s far enough away from the big city to offer a slower pace of life, but close enough that every amenity you could want is within easy reach," Safewise said about Marblehead.

Safewise.com reported the following statistics for Marblehead:
  • Violent crimes per 1,000 residents: 1.34
  • Property crimes per 1,000 residents: 11.02

I'm surprised we were so low on the list.

I blame the police. If they weren't lazy and did their jobs then this town would be higher on the list, where it deserves to be.
