Marblehead Delivers For Soldiers Far From Home

Five snapshot items about your town today.

1. All manner of passersby stopped at the canopy on West Shore Drive to donate comforts of home to soldiers stationed far from home.

Manning the station was Mark Bring, a Massachusetts carpenters' union member, and a leader with C.A.P.T.S. — Calling All Patriots.

12 or more times a year C.A.P.T.S. ships out loads of survival and other hard to get items from soap, socks and clean wipes to Girl Scout cookies and Lifesavers.

In the course of 20 minutes Sunday afternoon outside VFW Post 2005 four people stopped to donate to C.A.P.T.S.

They included a runner who stopped to make a cash donation, a man in a car who was looking for directions — a Vietnam vet it turned out — who also made a cash donation. And a driver from Lynn.

The driver, Debbie Krol, was making her second stop at the Post to drop off items.

"I have more than I need and they have nothing," she said of the soldiers stationed in remote outposts.
