2014 Marblehead Festival of Arts Logo Contest Winner Announced

The Marblehead Festival of Arts recently announced the winner of the 2014 Logo Contest.

The Marblehead Festival of Arts is proud to announce that Chris Small of Marblehead is the winner of the 2014 Logo Contest. Small’s design bested the 76 entries, being named one of four finalists by a panel of three judges and then earning the most votes of the more than 1200 cast by the public in 18 locations in and around Marblehead.

Small, an avid sailor, had a marine theme in mind when he designed his winning logo. “I knew the lighthouse would be an integral element I wanted to include the spirit of freedom that is felt out on the waters surrounding Marblehead so I incorporated graphical representations of sails, surf and seagulls,” said Small. “Building a logo is like putting together a puzzle and many times the pieces come from different places. If you look closely at the lighthouse you will see that the top resembles the Marblehead Magician’s hat.”

A self-taught designer who enjoys exploring many types of media, including oils, digital and photography, Small is a senior packaging engineer at Blue Buffalo, the New England-based pet food company. He lives in Marblehead with his wife Laura, a Marblehead native, and their 10-year-old daughter Eleanore. Small said, “Designing this logo was truly a family affair and having our design chosen as the 2014 winner is really a thrill for us all. It is an honor to win the logo contest and the Small family cannot wait to participate in this year’s festival.”

In addition to appearing in print and electronic media, Small’s logo will be emblazoned on a variety of wearable and souvenir items, ranging from shirts and hats to wine glasses and other collectibles. All will be on sale at the Festival’s Logo Store during the Festival and at other venues around town in late June.
