Photo portraits by Elisabeth Neville on exhibit in Stetson Gallery throughout March

ELISABETH NEVILLE PHOTOGRAPHS ON EXHIBIT
IN STETSON GALLERY THROUGHOUT MARCH

The value-rich, stunning photographic portraits of Elisabeth Neville will be featured in Stetson Art Gallery in the Unitarian Universalist Church of Marblehead throughout the month of March. An opening reception for the artist will be held on Sunday, March 2, from 12-2 p.m. at the Gallery, located at 28 Mugford St., Marblehead.

“In portraiture, expressions, inner beauty, and strengths are what are deemed most important and, hopefully, inherent in each image,” Elisabeth Neville says. Her portraits, she adds, are “drawn from the ideas of strength, rage, beauty, and humanity that are in each of us, and make us the people we are.”

Neville’s portraits are especially known for the strength and contrast of their values. “Each subject is defined by their ever-changing moods, their unique emotions, and their own style, grace, and color. While they might not be perfect, the subtle qualities beneath the surface that shine through are what make each portrait meaningful to me.”

Elisabeth Neville, a Marblehead resident, earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in photography and graphic design from Northeastern University, where she is now an adjunct professor, teaching a variety of photography and design courses. In her photography business, Elisabeth Neville Photography, she explores her main interest of portraiture, and also teaches those budding photographers interested in expanding their skills beyond “automatic” mode. She has exhibited her work throughout New England and New York. She is on the executive board of the Griffin Museum, is a member of the Marblehead Arts Association, is involved in the Copyright Alliance, and has served as Assistant Director of the Transcultural Exchange.

Stetson Gallery is open weekdays 9 a.m.-2p.m. (1 p.m. Mondays) and during Church events at other times. The Winter/Spring/Autumn 2014 Gallery season will feature the following artists: April, William Cloutman; May, photographs by Amy Friend Roberts; June, the photographs of Rev. Wendy von Zirpolo; September, One Hundred Hearts, an exhibit by Kacy, Steve, and Noah Pierce; October, June Rhodes. Curators Anthony and Jo Ann Silva welcome inquiries from artists at stetson@uumarblehead.org.
