Dentistry From The Heart Event held at Paradise Dental Associates

 Saturday September 21, 2013 at Paradise Dental Associates was a day unlike any other.  Upon arriving at the office several hours before the start of the day, the doctors and staff found a line formed outside their building at 990 Paradise Road in Swampscott.  There was a tent in the parking lot and patients were registering and enjoying coffee and donuts (courtesy of Dunkin’ Donuts).  The large line and excitement in the air was due to the fact that today was the day of free dental care being offered by Paradise Dental Associates through their partnership with a nonprofit organization called “Dentistry from the Heart” (DFTH).  Dentistry from the Heart (www.dentistryfromtheheart.org)  is a national organization based in Florida which helps dental offices all across the country deliver a free filling, extraction or cleaning to any patient in need.  When Drs. Stephen and Helyne Hamelburg, owners of Paradise Dental Associates, heard of this organization they jumped at the chance to host an event.  Always wanting to give back to the community they serve, Drs. Hamelburg both support and volunteer their time for many organizations.  Dr. Helyne Hamelburg thought DFTH offered a unique opportunity to make a positive impact.  She said, “What better way for us to help others than to do what we are best at and deliver the services that can make a huge difference in someone’s life.”

 Dozens of patients were treated that day.  Families were seen for cleanings, patients in need of an extraction were relieved of their pain.  Broken teeth and teeth with large cavities were restored like new.  The patients were very grateful to receive the free care.   The Drs. Hamelburg are extremely fortunate to have a caring and compassionate group of team members working with them.  These assistants, hygienists and office personnel also volunteered their time.  Some of their spouses and children also came and helped out.  A former employee of the office learned of the event and came with her fiancée, ensuring that the day ran smoothly.   

The day was a huge success and Paradise Dental Associates plans to make this an annual event!!

The event was supported by generous donation from our Vinnin Square neighbors – Dunkin’ Donuts, Stop & Shop, Panera Bread and Uno’s – who donated delicious foods and beverages for the patients and volunteers.  We also would like to thank Crest/Oral B and Patterson Dental Supply for their extremely generous donations of dental supplies that were used throughout the day.
