The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Marblehead is hosting its third annual “GreatPumpkin Carving Contest,” and everyone is welcome to participate.

Last year, nearly 30 entries decorated the lawn of the Mugford Street lawn, with trick-or-treaters and passersby voting on their favorites.

The congregation welcomes any and all entries. All you need do is deliver the pumpkin in time for trick-or-treating hours on Oct. 31. We will be handing out candy and inviting trick-or-treaters to vote. There is no charge for entering a pumpkin or voting.

This is one of my favorite events!  It’s always fun participating in the carving event itself but then I get to enjoy the reactions of trick-or-treaters throughout the evening!'

In addition to welcoming pumpkins at the event itself on Halloween, the public is invited to attend the Great Pumpkin Carving event on Sunday, Oct. 27 at noon. Pumpkin carving tools, soup and enthusiasm will be provided. Attendees may bring their own pumpkin, or purchase one for $4.

Pumpkins will be taken outside for display that evening and then stored inside until Halloween. Carvers are also welcome to take their creations home and return them for the contest on Halloween.
