Calvin Crawford Selected New Light Commission Member
He was the first applicant nominated and soon approved.
1. Town Government:
Selectmen and Marblehead Municipal Light Commissioner voted Calvin Crawford the newest Light Commission member after asking him and other applicants questions including one on the light Department's day-to-day operations.
He was the first applicant nominated and received the requisite 5 votes before the roll call vote completed its circle around the table of nine commissioners and selectmen.
Crawford is a former Marblehead businessman, owner of a cycle shop and auto parts store.
He said he has always been interested in the workings of a Marblehead Muncipal Light Commissioner.
Regarding the role of the commission in relation to daily operations at the Light Department, Crawford says the courts have spoken on that matter.
Daily operations responsibilities rest with the Light Department general manager not the commission, he said.
Each applicant was asked if he was aware of a division between the commission and the light department. Most said they were aware of talk about a division between the entities.
The other applicants were Benjamin Ayer, Andrew Hadden and John Wiiliams
