The Geologic History of Salem Sound!

235 Pleasant St, Marblehead, MA | Get Directions »
FREE

This is a repeat of a sellout last month. It was the first in a series of lectures "Underwater in Salem Sound" sponsored by Salem Sound Coastwatch and the Marblehead library.

Did you know that our North Shore coastline is built on a foundation of volcanic bedrock with affinities to Western Africa?

Dr. Lindley Hanson, Professor at Salem State University whose specialty is the geology of New England, will give an illustrated presentation about how these rocks traveled here and the geologic processes that shaped our harbors and coasts.

This is a fascinating presentation. You won't want to miss it!!

Salem Sound is the coastal embayment that runs from Marblehead in the South to Manchester-by-the-Sea in the North. Marblehead, Salem, Peabody, Danvers, Beverly and Manchester-by-the-Sea are all in the Salem Sound watershed.

This program is funded in part by a grant from the Massachusetts Environmental Trust through the sale of "Preserve the Trust" license plates.
