Geology of Salem Sound's Coastline and Harbors!

Did you know that our North Shore coastline is built on a foundation of volcanic bedrock with affinities to Western Africa?

Join Salem Sound Coaswatch and the Abbot Public Library for an illustrated presentation on the "Geologic History and Evolution of Salem Sound" by Dr. Lindley Hanson, Professor at Salem State University. Dr. Hanson, whose specialty is the geology of New England, will talk about how these rocks traveled here and the geologic processes that shaped our harbors and coasts.

After this session, you'll view our rocky coasts and landscapes from an entirely different perspective!

This is the first in a series of four lectures sponsored jointly by Salem Sound Coastwatch and the Abbot Public Library on "Underwater in Salem Sound."

This program is funded in part by a grant from the Massachusetts Environmental Trust through the sale of "Preserve the Trust" license plates.
