The following information was submitted by Darren Klein: The Marblehead 10 Year Old All-Stars continued their exciting and successful summer of baseball by winning their Round 2 Trophy Weekend Championship Game in the Bay State Tournament of Champions.  To qualify for the trophy round, Marblehead once again found itself in the familiar position of having a do or die game against Melrose.  After Jackson Klein pitched a gritty couple of innings to keep the score tied at 3-3, Kyle Saulnier came in and shut Melrose down for the next three innings. The following was submitted by Jack Attridge: Marblehead Youth Soccer U-14 travel Team, Thunder, beat Lynnfield to finish the season undefeated and they earned a spot in the Essex County Tournament at Pingree School on Saturday, June 16. The girls had a stellar season and represented Marblehead proudly with excellent teamwork, skill and determination.
The following information was provided by Jeffrey Morrison: Kelly Morrison, a seventh grade student at Marblehead Veterans Middle School and a member of the Gould Academy Competition Program at Sunday River, Maine, participated in the United States of America Snowboard Association National Championship competition at Copper Mountain, Colo., the week of April 2. Morrison, an active participant in the Maine Mountain Series, attends snowboarding events throughout Maine and competes in Boardercross, Slalom and Giant Slalom. The following story was submitted by Derek Norcross: As the final seconds ticked off the clock in the North Shore Girls Travel Basketball League Finals, Nicole Freddo turned and launched a half court 3-pointer that hit nothing but the bottom of the net. It was the exclamation point to a thrilling championship game and the culmination of a near perfect season for the Marblehead 7th grade girls basketball team. Marblehead ended their season with an 18-2 record by defeating arch-rival Ipswich 31-18, in a game that was much closer than the final score. Marblehead entered the NSGTBL tournament as …
The following information was submitted by Maura Sweetnam: The Cape Ann Youth Basketball league's annual shooting competition was held at Veterans Middle School over the weekend. Two members of the Marblehead 6th grade basketball travel team swept the 6th grade competition. Patrick Sweetnam (left) won the 3 Point Shooting contest and Derek Marino (right) won the Free Throw contest.
The following information was submitted by Marblehead Bantams Assistant Coach Ted Gienieczko: This season, for the first time in many years, Marblehead Youth Hockey entered several of their teams in the Massachusetts State Youth Hockey Tournament. The tournament began this past January with a preliminary play down round of games at the Haverhill Valley Forum. The Marblehead Bantam AA team, coached by Mark Lavoie with assistant coaches Steve Roy and Ted Gienieczko, earned a right to continue on by beating teams from Haverhill/Pentucket and Andover. The following was submitted by Stuart Woodrow: The Marblehead Middle School Hockey Team rolled into Salem State College on Monday Night with a perfect 15-0 record and the Viking Hockey League Championship on the line.  They took on the number two seed Peabody Tanners who fought them tough in every contest this season.  The last matchup ended in a regulation tie but was settled with shootout goals by Matt Koopman and Owen Picariello and an outstanding performance by Ronan Cunningham in the Marblehead net. The following was submitted by Stuart Woodrow: The Marblehead Bantams took to the ice this holiday season to compete in Winthrop’s Miracle on Ice Tournament which commemorates the improbable victory of the 1980 US Men’s Olympic Hockey Team over The Russians at Lake Placid. Winthrop’s own Mike Eruzione scored the winning goal over the Russians which is considered by many to be the greatest upset in sports history.  Marblehead’s success at this tourney will not go down in the record books but will be long remembered by the participants and their families. --- Marblehead coasted to an easy …
With the majority of Wednesday’s athletic events postponed due to Tuesday morning's flash flooding, Marblehead Middle School runners took center stage as they took on Pickering-Marshall at Seaside Park. Both teams won in impressive fashion. The girls’ team took six of the top seven spots and the boys went six for six at the top of their race. Seventh grader Emma Bushman finished first for the girls, crossing the finish line in 9:54; while P. J.
