The following was sent in by Jewish Community Center of the North Shore's Director of PR and Marketing, Leigh Blander: We had a great turn-out for the Jewish Community Center of the North Shore's Family Fitness Expo. Dozens of local families made their way to the JCC to take in a fitness circuit with spinning, piloxing, bodypump, urban rebounding and more. Child participants tested their skills at zumbatomic and urban rebounding kids - and everybody was treated to healthy smoothies.

Hundres of area athletes pushed themselves to the limit Sunday morning as they ran, swam and biked their way across town during Jewish Community Center's Triathlon by the Sea. Men's winner: Kevin Reen of Swampscott, 53:16. Women's winner: Kristin Lamb of Marblehead, 55:44. Congratulations to all of the local athletes who participated.

Those who braved the torrential rains last Thursday evening to attend the JCC Book Month event showcasing short story writer Stuart Nadler were richly rewarded. Nadler’s recently published short story collection, The Book of Life, has been critically acclaimed. The New Yorker wrote: “Betrayal and forgiveness infuse this impressive début collection … Nadler skillfully creates characters whose failures and faults make them comically, endearingly human.” Nadler, who was hoarse from fighting off a cold, was a funny and candid speaker. Actor, author and director Paul Michael Glaser came with his book and a message Sunday at the Jewish Community Center of the North Shore. He read from Chrystallia and the Source of Light, written in the voice of a 13-year-old girl confronted with the loss of her mother and her home. The message, Glaser said after the reading, tells what he has learned about how to cope with helplessness and fear.
