On Monday we received a few shots from fans who bumped into Adam Sandler while he was off the set of Grown Ups 2 and out and about in Marblehead. They included a photo from the check-out line at Crosby's Market and this one, taken while Sandler was spotted shopping at Village Plaza. Jonathan Sanger stopped the movie star for a side-by-side shot because people tell him that if he let his sideburns grow, threw on some shades and wore a hat, he could be Adam Sandler's double. So we have to ask - is Sanger a possible candidate for Sandler's next stunt double or do you just not see the resemblance.
The National Weather Service is predicting that we may see record high temperatures in Massachusetts today, which means local residents will be looking for ways to beat the heat. We thought this recent hot spell would be a great topic for this week's Let's Settle This column and now we have to ask - what would you rather find in the weather forecast, an oppressively hot summer day or a blinding blizzard? Click through the photo gallery above for a look at some local landmarks Monday afternoon and the same locations in the dead of winter. Thanks to this weekly column, we've learned that our …
Earlier this week, we ran a local crime story titled "Elderly Woman Injured During Alleged Home Invasion," which stirred up a side discussion among our readers about age. Every so often we will run a story with the world "elderly" in the headline: such as Elderly Driver Hits Pillar at Local Bank or Elderly Man Arrested for Driving After OUI. These 'elder' posts almost always initiate a discussion as to why or why not the individual we've written about is old enough to be elderly - so we've decided to settle the dispute once and for all as part of our new Let's Settle This column. The Merriam-…
Earlier this year, we ran a story focused on the rules pertaining to dogs in Marblehead and it stirred up quite the discussion among our readers. You don't have to spend much time in Marblehead to recognize that people here love their dogs. It was so apparent that we created a Woofin' it Across Town column aimed at showcasing the wide variety of dog breeds seen out for walks in town. Though the story was meant to help the Recreation and Parks Commission with raising public awareness, some of our readers used the comment section to complain that local residents don't clean up after their pets…
I live in Marblehead, pay my taxes in Marblehead, but would never claim to be a "Header." Doing so would surely prompt a local torch and pitchfork shortage. Prior to moving to Marblehead, I can safely say I'd never heard a resident of any town refer to their neighbor as a "transplant" or "off-islander" and learned early-on that claiming false "Header" status was a local no-no. Every so often we will run a story with the word "Header" in the headline: such as Header Aims to Break Two World Records, Headers Flock to Orange Leaf Opening and Header to Appear on Wheel of Fortune. These 'Header' …
On Monday morning, we published a story entitled "Grown Ups 2 Shoot in Old Town Today" and stirred up quite the discussion among our readers. Though the post was just a reminder to be wary of parking restrictions and traffic backups while cameras were rolling, a handful of our readers got into a dispute over whether that section of Marblehead is called Old Town, the Historic District, or simply Downtown Marblehead. In our defense, our headlines are usually written with available space in mind, meaning "Header" is a better option than "Marblehead Resident" and "Old Town" will leave more room …
