The Black & Blue wrestling team got off to its best start in years at the Northeast Conference tournament held Saturday at Beverly High School. The team beat Salem 33-30, for its first dual meet victory of the season. The meet against Salem was filled with highlights: Stephen Hopkins, an 8th grader wrestling at 106 pounds, pinned his Salem just opponent halfway through the first period. That pin, in what was Hopkins second bout ever as a varsity wrestler, was among the many bright spots on the day. The Marblehead boys soccer team hadn’t allowed a goal in 120 minutes of playoff action. Wilmington put an end to that streak in the second half of Sunday’s North Division 2 playoff tilt. For a brief second, Marblehead High School field hockey coach Linda Collins and her players thought they were heading for overtime in their postseason opener in Wilmington. Wildcat goalie Casey Herra, however, had other ideas. Marblehead High School's varsity football team will travel to Newburyport this afternoon hoping to remain undefeated on the season - and for those players who were on the team last year, to get a little payback for a brutal loss last Octboer. Although the Magicians led 20-0 at halftime and 26-7 late in the fourth quarter last October, the Clippers put 21 straight points on the board and found the end zone with just 21 seconds left to steal a win on the road. III State Relays in Pembroke over the weekend, scoring 22 points. The highlight of the day came in the high jump, where the team of Celina Variam, Kelly Roland, and Lily Cummings took home the gold with a combined jump of 14 feet 9 inches. Marblehead High School's boys' varsity baskeball team outscored visiting Tewksbury, 6-3, in overtime to pull out a remarkable 46-43 win in the opening round of the Division 2 North Sectionals, Monday night.
