Welcome back, Patch Blogger!
Marblehead is a town well-known for fielding top-tier high school sports teams and the need for a turf athletic field has become something of a polarizing local issue. So, we decided to make Marblehead's apparent need for a state-of-the-art turf athletic field the focus of this week's Does Marblehead Need One? column. We've already asked our readers to vote on whether or not Marblehead needed a movie theater, gas station, skate park, teen center, car wash and bowling alley. Now we have to ask - do you think Marblehead needs a turf field? Let us know by voting in the poll below and sharing …
If you live in Marblehead, you probably know that if you want to go bowling you have to head out of town. So we decided to make a local bowling alley the focus of this week's Does Marblehead Need One? column. We've already asked our readers to vote on whether or not Marblehead needed a movie theater, gas station, skate park, teen center and car wash. Now we have to ask - do you think Marblehead needs its own bowling alley? Is there a location in town that you think would be perfect for one? Marblehead for Teens, a local non-profit, recently announced the appointment of Executive Director and local resident Molly Williams, who has been charged with opening a brand new teen center in Marblehead as soon as November. The organization is now scouting Marblehead for available spaces and is looking to enlist the support of local organizations and town residents. "The Marblehead teen center, the actual name for which will be chosen by teens, is being modeled after other highly successful teen centers that are teen-managed and – importantly – dedicated, physically separate spaces teens …
You don't have to spend much time in Marblehead to realize that the kids here love to skateboard - and now that school's out for summer, you can expect to see a lot more of them cruising around town. Though the local love for skateboarding runs deep, it doesn't change the fact that the streets and sidewalks in downtown Marblehead can be very narrow. The combination of the two has resulted in some very serious injuries to local boarders. A 22-year-old spent nearly a week in critical condition last summer after colliding with a car on Gingerbread Hill. Marblehead used to be home to a wooden …
If you live in town, you've probably heard that the Warwick Theater Foundation is raising money to open a movie theater in the new 38,000-square-foot Warwick Place building on Pleasant Street. Though it remains unclear whether or not the building will ultimately house a theater, we want to know - do you think Marblehead needs a movie theater? Last month we asked 'Does Marblehead Need a Gas Station?' and stirred up quite the discussion among our readers. Let us know how you feel about seeing the big screen return to Marblehead in the comments section below.
If you live in Marblehead, you've probably pulled into your driveway with an empty gas tank and worried about making it back into Salem or Swampscott to fill up. So, we have to ask - if you could arrange to have a new gas station open anywhere in town without worrying about the price, zoning or existing businesses and buildings - where would you put it? Let us know by adding the address to the comments section below and we will post a pin to our interactive widget map above. These pins represent just a few of the places where we think a gas station would work. Don't think Marblehead needs a …
