The Board of Selectmen awarded a common victualer's license to the local man looking to open Joey D's on Pleasant Street.

The Board of Selectmen unanimously approved a motion Wednesday night to award a Common Victualer's License to a local man looking to open Joey D's in the space formerly occupied by Hooked Seafood & Grill. Prospective owner Joseph Costanzo, of Green Street, told board members he recently sold Luciana's Restaurant and Pizza on Highland Avenue in Salem and is looking to open a business on Pleasant Street that will offer fresh-caught seafood, Italian fare and pizza. "I've been in the restaurant business for 30 plus years and I've owned my own restaurant since 1985," Costanzo said, "so I have many, many years of experience under my belt." Althought Costanzo didn't offer a guess at when Joey D's will be ready for customers, he did say he hopes …

Get ready Marblehead - filming of the star-packed Adam Sandler movie Grown Ups 2 is expected to begin in town next week. Columbia Pictures Location Manager Mark Fitzgerald appeared before the Board of Selectmen at Abbot Hall Wednesday night to present a proposed schedule for the first two weeks of filming - which will include four days in Marblehead.  So don't be surprised if you see some celebrities filming outside of Marblehead Veterans Middle School, a cheerleader car wash scene shot outside of the Jeremiah Lee Mansion or a Vassar Road home transformed into a Hollywood set. Joey D's Opening on Pleasant Street

Wondering what's opening at the former home of Hooked Seafood and Grill?

Marblehead residents can expect a new restaurant offering pizza, Italian fare and seafood to open soon on Pleasant Street. According to a sign recently posted in the front window of the space formerly occupied by Hooked Seafood & Grill, Joey D's will be opening soon. It was announced at a Board of Selectmen's meeting last fall that Hooked would be closing its doors for the winter season. Then, in April, former owner Ben Rhodes notified board members that the restaurant wouldn't be reopening at all. Rhodes told the Selectmen that a number of factors contributed to the permanent closure of the restaurant, located at 145 Pleasant St., and that two local men were vying to purchase the space next to The Rip Tide. Also opening later this summer …

Every week we set out to answer a question submitted by one of our readers as part of our You Ask...Patch Answers column. UPDATE: 5 Corners Kitchen Expansion

The Board of Selectmen unanimously approved a request from 5 Corners Kitchen owner Barry Edelman to more than double his seating capacity.

5 Corners Kitchen owner Barry Edelman appeared before the Board of Selectmen Wednesday night to ask for permission to more than double the seating capacity of his restaurant on School Street. Edelman, who also serves as the restaurant's head chef, told board members that he was "excited to get back in the kitchen" and said his expansion from 1,200-square-feet to 2,300-square-feet will allow him to seat 100. "I'm here tonight to seek permission to expand the seating capacity on my existing liquor license from 40 to 100, which I'm quite excited about," Edelman said. When asked by board member James Nye if the restaurant's expansion into the space formerly occupied by Terry's Ice Cream Shop would provide enough room to seat that many patrons…

Casa Corona Opening on Smith Street

Marblehead's newest Mexican restaurant will open later this spring on Smith Street.

Felix Bracamontes was hard at work inside the future home of Casa Corona Restaurant on Smith Street Wednesday afternoon, hoping to get everything ready for a June grand opening. Bracamontes will be opening Marblehead's new authentic Mexican restaurant with his brother, Jose Bracamontes, who spent five years working as a chef at Mexico Lindo in Melrose. The restaurant will be opening in the space next to Evan's New York Style Deli, which was formerly occupied by Trattoria Sablone, "sometime in the next two months," Bracamontes said.  Local residents can expect to see an awning with the restaurant's name installed sometime this week, he said. Although he and his brother haven't finalized the menu, Bracamontes said customers can expect …
